So the finish line moved again 😓
When you've been running the race and paying the cost, then the line moves, it's soul-crushing.
You get tired of the fight, and honestly, you're justified in that.
What's dangerous about the exhaustion is, it can easily lead to emotional intoxication.
Emotions like frustration and fear naturally cause chemicals to release in your brain that numb your ability to think clearly.
It's the same chemical cocktail that shows up in any high-stress moment...adrenaline, cortisol, and a hunt for dopamine to feel in control again.
When left unchecked, and especially when provoked, these chemicals hijack your judgment and push you into reactive decisions you'll regret later.
That's why perspective matters so much in moments like these.
When you're zoomed all the way in on a problem, every moved goalpost feels like the end of the world.
Perspective, on the other hand, means deliberately forcing yourself to zoom back out.
Hebrews 12 tells us to run the race with endurance AND perspective.
"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." (Hebrews 12:1-2)
"Fixing our eyes" is key.
The race is real, and the adaptation is required, but your eyes (perspective) determine your demeanor.
Where the eyes go, the body will follow.
So instead of...
Why is this happening?
Where did we go wrong?
Who caused this?
The questions become...
Why are we on this mission?
Where are we headed?
Who's with me?
Because these questions lift our eyes and get us out of the irrational emotions and back in the race.
